Visas
General information (important)
American nationals holding USA passports need an entry visa for Uganda.
Naturalized American citizens of Uganda descent need an entry visa for Uganda.
Nationals of the countries listed below are exempted from visa requirements for travel to Uganda. They do, however, need to have a current passport issued by their respective countries.

Members of COMESA: Angola, Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Kenya, Malawi Mauritius, Madagascar, Rwanda, Seychelles, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Others exempted are: Antigua & Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Fiji, Gambia, Grenada, Jamaica, Lesotho, Malta, Sierra Leone, Singapore Solomon Islands St Vincent & the Grenadines, Tonga, Vanuatu, Italy (Only diplomatic passport holders) and Cyprus.

 Visa Requirements:

One dully filled Application form by each applicant,

Every section of the application form must be completed. Incomplete forms will not be processed.

2 passport size photographs

Must submit original Passport valid past the date of your expected departure from Uganda.

Correct visa fee, letter of invitation/introduction, if traveling on business.
Applicants may be requested to submit additional supporting documentation.
An international Inoculation Certificate against yellow fever.
A prepaid self-addressed USPS Express Overnight return envelope only must be included with applications sent by mail.
N.B. You are advised to ensure that your passport has a validity of at least six months from the date of your intended travel. Processing time for a visa is 2 to 3 working days.


 Visa fees and other details

a) US$ 50 for single entry: Valid for three months from the date of arrival.

b) US$ 100 for multiple entries: Valid for six months from the date of arrival.


Visa fees must be paid by money order payable to UGANDA EMBASSY, on submission of visa application. Personal Checks are not accepted. Please note that the visa fee is non-refundable.

NB: Failure to complete the application form fully may result in the issuance of a visa being delayed or refused. The visa enables the holder to proceed to a port of entry where he/she must comply with the laws and regulations governing the admission of persons to the Republic of Uganda.

Movement Permit
An official and authentic “Movement Permit” should be obtained from the veterinary authority of the area of origin.
Certificates
A bill of health certifying that the pet is free from disease. It should be issued by a registered veterinary surgeon or official and should be properly signed and stamped within ten days of shipment.
A certificate or letter from the local veterinary authorities indicating that the area of origin of the pet is free from rabies.
Vaccinations
Dogs require vaccination against distemper, hepatitis, Leptospirosos, Parvo-virus and rabies. It should have been done not less than 30 days prior to arrival at any point of entry into Uganda.
Cats require vaccinations against Feline Entritis and rabies. It should have been done not less than 30 days prior to arrival at any point of entry into Uganda.
Transportation
While in transit, Dogs and Cats must not come into contact with other animals. To ensure this, each pet should be appropriately crated.
Certification of documents for transportation of remains of deceased persons to Uganda.
Certification is done free of charge. Processing time is 2 working days.
The following original documents are required for certification:
A Signed letter of request for certification from a responsible person e.g. A relative, an employer etc
The Passport of the deceased.
A Death certificate.
A Certificate of Embalmment.
A Burial permit from the local authority where the deceased person resided.
A certificate of no contagious diseases.
The transporting airline will advise the applicant on an appropriate casket.
Mailed documents should be accompanied by a prepaid self addressed return envelope.
Requirements for obtaining a Letter of No Objection to J1 visa Waiver
Copy of the main page of your Ugandan passport.
A letter to the Embassy signed by the applicant.
Copy of a letter of no objection from the course sponsor.
Copy of the Certificate of Eligibility (DS-2019)
Copy of the submitted J1 Visa waiver recommendation Application (DS-3035)
Copy of the confirmation print out for the submitted waiver application.
Adoption of Ugandan Children
US citizens are advised to visit the website site of the US Department of State and in particular, the link to Intercountry Adoption.

In addition, you may wish to get in touch with a local attorney in Uganda who should be able to assist you through the process.

Requirements for Registration of a completed Adoption with the Embassy
1. A Copy of the court judgment granting the adoption.
2. A Copy of the adoptive parent's photo IDs.
3. A Current photo of the child clearly showing facial features.
4. The Full address in the US where the child will reside.

Requirements for a letter of recommendation for NGOs
A Certificate of Authenticity obtained from the US Department of State. (Check  for details on how to obtain the certificate)
