Legalization Singapore

How the Process Works

The required process depends on where your document was issued or notarized:

Document type Apostille authority
State and local certificates and court records The designated authority in the issuing state
Washington, DC documents The appropriate District of Columbia authority
Notarized documents The designated authority in the jurisdiction where the notarization took place
Eligible federal documents U.S. Department of State

State-issued documents generally do not require U.S. Department of State authentication after receiving the appropriate state apostille for Singapore.

State and Local Documents

Common examples include:

  • Birth, marriage, and death certificates
  • Divorce decrees
  • Certified court judgments and probate records
  • State-issued business records

These documents generally require an original certified copy issued by the appropriate government office or court. A plain photocopy is generally insufficient.

Requirements vary by state and document type. Please email a clear copy for review before mailing your originals.

Federal Documents

Common examples include:

  • FBI Identity History Summaries
  • Eligible federal court records
  • Certain documents issued by U.S. federal agencies

Eligible federal documents require an apostille from the U.S. Department of State. Document preparation and certification requirements depend on the issuing agency.

For an FBI background check apostille, contact us for submission instructions. Other federal documents should be reviewed before submission.

Notarized Personal, Educational, and Business Documents

Documents that may require notarization before an apostille include:

  • Affidavits and single-status statements
  • Powers of attorney
  • Diplomas and transcripts
  • Agreements and corporate resolutions
  • Income verification letters
  • Certain passport-copy certifications

Notarization must meet the requirements of the relevant jurisdiction. Some states also require county-level certification before issuing an apostille.

Government-issued certificates and federal records should be reviewed before any notarization is added.

Translation Requirements

If your document is not in English, confirm the translation requirements with the organization receiving it in Singapore. Translation certification, notarization, and apostille requirements may differ depending on the document and its intended use.

Please email a copy so we can review the requested service.

Fees and Processing Time

The total cost depends on the document type, issuing jurisdiction, number of documents, and any notarization, certification, translation, or shipping required.

  • VisaDC service fee: $108 or $115 per document, depending on the service required
  • Government fees: Additional; vary by issuing authority
  • U.S. Department of State fee: $20 per document when a federal apostille is required
  • Notarization and other preparation: Additional, when applicable
  • Return shipping: Quoted separately

Singapore Embassy legalization is not required for eligible U.S. documents with the appropriate apostille. There is no embassy processing stage for these documents.

Processing times vary by issuing authority. We will confirm the estimated turnaround time and total cost after reviewing your documents.
