Requirements:

  • Original certified document with raised or stamped seal.

  • Certified by the Secretary of State of issuance.

  • The Secretary of State certifies the signing official under the State Seal.

2. Federally Issued Documents

Examples: FBI Background Checks, USDA Certificates, Federal Court Documents, Immigration Records
Requirements:

  • Must be issued and signed by a U.S. Federal Agency.

  • Must include the agency’s original raised or stamped seal.

3. District of Columbia Court Documents

Examples: D.C. Marriage Certificates
Requirements:

  • Must bear the original official signature and raised seal of the D.C. Court.

4. General / Business Documents

Examples: Affidavits, Power of Attorney, Commercial Invoices, Articles of Incorporation, Diplomas, Transcripts, Passport Copies, Single Status Certificates
Requirements:

  • Notarized by a licensed Notary Public.

  • Certified by the Clerk of Court where the notary is commissioned.

  • Certified by the Secretary of State of the same state.

  • For D.C. documents, certification from the D.C. Secretary of State Notarial Section.
